Ancient Rhetoric 101 - PDF
Ancient Rhetoric was a foundational skill taught in universities and in the academies of Ancient Greece. These 7 simple lessons in Ancient Rhetoric techniques will help you get started in gaining that skill that so many students wanted to master. These are the following techniques you will learn:
Lesson 1: Alliteration (repetition of the same letter) and Anastrophe (Word order change).
Lesson 2: Antanaclasis (repetition of word or phrase whose meaning changes in the second instance) and Anthypophora (Ask and then answer your own question).
Lesson 3: Antimetabole (repetition of words in successive clauses).
Lesson 4: Antiprosopopoeia (representation of persons as inanimate objects).
Lesson 5: Aposiopesis (breaking off suddenly in the middle of speaking).
Lesson 6: Aporia (Deliberating with oneself as though in doubt over some matter.)
Lesson 7: Articulus (Joining several phrases without any conjunctions).
